After completing the course, the doctoral student understands the general characteristics of qualitative research. S/he is able to analytically read qualitative research and estimate the reliability, validity and usefulness of the methods that have been used. The doctoral student is sufficiently familiar with qualitative research methods so that s/he is able to choose the methods that best suit her/his own research and use them efficiently, reliably and responsibly.
Contents
The courses organised under this heading look at a broad range of qualitative research and instruction is offered on the general principles of qualitative methods and their typical characteristics and uses. The courses support the doctoral students’ own use of qualitative research methods. The courses look at planning qualitative research and the research process, the interpretation and presentation of the findings, estimating the validity of the research results as well as other research practices, including the special characteristics of the different methods.
