General description

In their course, students take part in a wide variety of arts-based interventions (incl. forum theatre, process-based drama, improvisation, visualisation, image theatre, and storytelling) with the intention to improve their ability to communicate spontaneously in English in various different situations. Although the methods used draw on the arts, the main focus of the course is to engage in dialogue in English on social, political, environmental, organisational, and cultural issues in small and large groups.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, students are expected to be able to
- discuss social, political, environmental, organisational, and cultural issues in English
- apply a number of effective (verbal/nonverbal) communication strategies in small and large groups
- reflect on and assess their ability to communicate spontaneously and use effective communication strategies in English
- provide, receive and respond to constructive feedback

Contents

To achieve the learning outcomes, students will
- participate in arts-based interventions, practising the following skills in English: negotiation, explanation, interviewing, questioning, discussion,
- engage in group discussions on social, political, environmental, organisational, and cultural
- provide and receive feedback
- engage in reflective written and oral tasks

Teaching methods

Interactive and reflexive workshops maximum 26 h, independent work 28 h.
