Learning outcomes

By the conclusion of this course, the students are expected to be able to demonstrate a broad understanding of the diversity of issues and questions related to managing business organisations strategically. In addition, the students are expected to be able to understand various links and challenges between the dynamic pressures and possibilities of the global business environment and the managing of individual business organisations.

Contents

The course starts by problematising the concept of strategy and some of the fundamental axioms, in particular those related to Technology and Globalisation. After that we examine some of the key elements of modern Business strategy, namely Value creation and Value capture, Exploration and Explotation, Business Lock-in and Lock-out, Focus and Diversification, Value chains and Value networks, Industry stucture and Business model disruptions, as well as Life-cycles and Scaling-up. The course comprises of lectures and discussions focusing on the elements mentioned above, thus giving background for student group work preparations and presentations.
