Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course unit, the student will be able to read early modern British literature whilst taking into account its historical, cultural, and social backgrounds. The student will understand how the texts have constructed and produced an image of early modern Britain and will also be aware of how these texts are still relevant today.

Contents

The course unit is an introduction to English literature in the early modern era, and it examines how literary texts both reflect world views and contribute to their development. The student will read texts from the Middle Ages to the Enlightenment and examine the historical, cultural, and social development of English literature. The course will also present typical literary genres of the period.
