Advanced Studies in English Language and Literature consist of compulsory studies ENGS1–3 (15 ECTS), thesis studies (40 ECTS), and alternative studies (25 ECTS). The student must complete at least one course unit belonging to the module of Book Exams and Essays and include it in their alternative studies that have to comprise at least 25 ECTS.
The remaining alternative studies may be freely chosen from the themes and from the Book Exams and Essays module. The student may complete all the alternative studies within one theme of their choosing or freely combine different themes. The alternative studies will allow the student to thoroughly familiarise themselves with, for example, the structure and lexicon of the English language, language teaching, the interplay between language and society, literary genres, or the societal significance of literature. The student may participate in the thesis seminar only after completing the intermediate studies. The seminar paper written in English during the thesis seminar is part of the student's Master's thesis.
