Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of the Bachelor's degree, including the language and communication studies, the student will be able to
- communicate appropriately within their field and in professional contexts
- communicate in multilingual and multicultural contexts
- understand and engage in the discourse of their field in both domestic languages (Finnish and Swedish) and in at least one foreign language
- acquire and convey information
- develop their language skills independently.
Content
In the Degree Programme in English Language, Literature, and Translation, the Bachelor of Arts degree includes the following language and communication studies:
1. Swedish Oral and Written Communication, 4 ECTS
2. Written Communication, 3 ECTS
Swedish Oral and Written Communication (4 ECTS) is intended to be completed on the student’s second year of study. Written Communication (3 ECTS) is intended to be completed on the third year of study.
In addition to the aforementioned language and communication studies (7 ECTS), the student can also complete other language and communication studies offered by the Language Centre and include them in the Free Choice Studies of the degree.
Exceptions and clarifications to language and communication studies:
1. Swedish Oral and Written Communication is not required of a student who completes Basic Studies in Scandinavian Languages or Swedish Translation Studies.
2. The degree programme students of language and translation studies must complete the Written Communication course unit. Written Communication course unit is not required of a student who completes Basic Studies in Finnish Language or the Finnish for Translators I study module.
3. For those who plan to become subject teachers, it is recommended to complete the course unit KKSUOPE Introduction to Interpersonal Communication Skills / Education, 2 ECTS.
