Learning outcomes

Once students have completed this basic studies module in Romanian, they will be able to read texts in Romanian (journalistic, non-fiction and simple literary texts, etc.) and use both spoken and written Romanian to communicate in everyday situations. Students will acquire a basic knowledge of the structure of the language and of Romanian history, society, culture and literature and the country’s economy.

Content

Students can complete a 25-credit basic studies module in Romanian. In addition to practical language skills, the module aims to provide students with a basic knowledge of the structure of the language and of Romanian history, society, culture and literature and the country’s economy. The module is recommended for everyone who might need knowledge of the Romanian language in his/her field. The module can be completed in one year.

Course of Studies

The language skills courses require regular and active attendance at lectures and tutorials; students must also take an examination at the end of each course. To take ROMAP2, students must have successfully completed ROMAP1 or acquired similar skills in some other way. To take ROMAP3, students must have successfully completed ROMAP2. ROMAP4 (culture and literature) and ROMAP5 (history, society and the economy) courses are taught in English and can therefore be taken at the same time as ROMAP1, ROMAP2 or ROMAP3.

Various international exchange programmes offer students a chance to apply for a grant to attend a summer course or embark on a longer study programme in Romania. Courses taken in Romania can substitute for some of the basic studies courses if this has been agreed upon.

The lecturer offers advice about the study module during her office hours. Average grades for the study module are awarded by the studies coordinator.

Examinations

End-of-course examinations take place immediately after the course ends. If ROMAP4 or ROMAP5 are taken as book examinations, the examinations are held on one of the School’s examination dates or as agreed upon with the instructor, in compliance with the University’s Regulations on the Assessment of Studies.

Average Grade

The individual courses and the study module as a whole are graded on a scale of 1 to 5. The grade awarded for the study module is the grade average of the individual courses. Students must ask the studies coordinator for their study module grade once they have completed all courses.
