Interpreting for Healthcare Industry, 35– ECTS

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the Interpreting for Healthcare Industry study module, the student will be able to work as a professional interpreter in the healthcare industry. The student will have knowledge of the field of translation and interpretation in the healthcare industry and be familiar with the cultural and historical discourses of healthcare in different countries. In addition, they will be able to manage these discourses from a comparative perspective. Furthermore, the student will have thorough knowledge and understanding of the professional and ethical principles of the field and of the legislation that applies to it. The student will also be familiar with the characteristics of the language and terminology used in the medical community. They will understand the role that medical terms and expressions have in communication in the healthcare industry, and know how to solve translation and interpretation problems related to this specialised subject. Furthermore, the student knows how to obtain information specific to a specialised subject.
