The course is only for the international Master's Degree students of the Faculty of Education. The schedule of the lectures and visits to the schools will be informed to the participating group. The schedule includes several options for each day in the given observation weeks.

The further gatherings will be discussed and agreed on the first meetings.

This course introduces students to what scientific research is and to differences in research cultures within educational science. Students develop understanding of key issues and concepts, such as ontology, epistemology, methodology, competing paradigms, objectivity, validity and ethics in educational research.

The course is for the students of the programmes Master's Degree in Teacher Education and Master's Degree in Media Education.

The course is arranged for the students of the Master's Degree in Teacher Education and the Master's Degree in Media Education. Max 18 students.

The course will offer an overview of qualitative methodologies applied in Education, detailing different possibilities for data collection, analysis and reporting research. The aim is to provide a learning environment that allows students to critically reflect on the possibilities, advantages and limitations of the qualitative approach and to give them theoretical bases for the development of qualitative research designs.

At the end of the course it is expected that students have deepen his/her knowledge of qualitative approach, that they understand the special characteristics of qualitative-oriented research and, therefore, are capable to assess the applicability of qualitative research methods for answering the research questions set in their thesis project.
