Knowledge about statistical methods and data analysis is of great importance in almost any field of research. In this course, general concepts of statistics will be provided so that the students can be able to independently carry out a small scale empirical research with the statistical software R.
Contents
A maximum number of 50 students will be allowed in this course (70% doctoral students and 30% masters students).
Please note that this course cannot be included inside the minimum 120 ECTS of Master's Degree Programme in CBDA (basic level course).
MTTTP1 Tilastotieteen johdantokurssi lectured in period I, II or III-IV is recommended for Finnish students.

By taking a historical, ideological, economical, social, political and systems theoretical view, the aim is to widen the perspectives on the effects that global challenges have on the future of welfare states, and teach how to make an holistic analysis of the present and future challenges of the welfare states. A historical view is taken to the development of welfare states and economic globalization, as well as, to the ideological development of ideas and values and models of welfare states. The European Union's effects to the recent and future development of European welfare state are also discussed. To widen the global view on the challenges, international politics and economy are discussed in relation to challenges of governance of world economic system and world politics.

Working methods: The course consist of 24 hours of lectures and 6 hours of seminar where the essay task is handled. The essays are written on a given question (alone or as a group).

This course will address key issues in contemporary Korean politics, ranging from ongoing democratic reforms in South Korea to North Korean nuclear crisis. It delivers a series of lectures of (1) political history, (2) constitutional reform debates, (3) socio-economic reforms for a more fair and inclusive society, (4) democratic innovations and new forms of citizen participation, (5) resolving the North Korean nuclear crisis and new approaches towards peace & co-existence, and (6) promoting human rights and democratic citizenship in the region.

Social circus is a measure of intervention based on the combination of circus arts and social-pedagogy. It targets various at-risk groups in order to support the empowerment and emancipation of individuals and assist with participants’ personal and social development by nurturing their self-esteem and trust in others, as well as by helping them to acquire social skills, express their creativity and realize their potential in order to become active citizens. In this approach, the primary goal is not to learn the circus arts, but rather to create social change helping marginalized individuals assume their place in a society. Various studies indicate that the socio-pedagogical and welfare impacts of Social Circus are undeniable.

A project is a “temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product or service.” As such, a project may require a unique approach to its management and administration. This course examines the process of applied project management using defined project management disciplines as a means to understanding the day-to-day operational issues faced by project managers. Project management is a cross-disciplinary field with applications in non-profit organizations, governmental institutions, and all types of industry and business. At the end of this course the student should be able to develop, execute, and control a project plan based upon specific metrics for success including the unique variables of differing disciplines.
