Joint Nordic Master Programme in Didactics of Mathematics (NORDIMA)
The Joint Nordic Master Programme NORDIMA qualifies for a master degree in the didactics of mathematics and opens for a labour market in the whole Nordic educational system. The core content of the master program NORDIMA will consist of a didactics of mathematics perspective on the theory of science, curriculum, the theories of teaching and learning mathematics, methodological issues for research in the didactics of mathematics, history, traditions and justifications in the Nordic educational system of mathematics education.
The programme is created within a consortium consisting of five partners in three of the Nordic countries, Norway, Denmark, and Finland. The partners are University of Agder, Kristiansand, Danish School of Education, Aarhus University, Campus København, University of Copenhagen, København, Åbo Akademi University, Vasa and University of Tampere, Tampere
The main partner of the University of Tampere in the programme is the University of Agder in Kristiansand, Norway.
The curriculum describes a structure, in which the first year of studies is carried out in the University of Tampere, the second year in the University of Agder. In case the first year of studies is carried out in Agder and the second in Tampere, the studies taken in the University of Tampere are defined according to a personal study plan.
The aim and objectives of the master program NORDIMA in the didactics of mathematics are to make the student able to frame, analyse and discuss problems in relation to learning, education and teaching in institutional frames and take justified qualified decisions concerning the planning of mathematics teaching. The students develop insights into and an overview of theories in the didactics of mathematics and their relation to classroom practice. They will be able to develop their own ideas and design research based analyses of problems in the didactics of mathematics. They will also show independence and a deep understanding about learning processes in mathematics.
