Tampere University and Tampere University of Applied Sciences are offering the degree students of both institutions opportunity to seek certain studies at the other institution. University students use also the service for cross-institutional studies if they are intend to apply for studies from the other campus(es) (Hervanta campus or city centre campus and Kauppi campus). Instructions for the service for cross-institutional studies also apply to the students of TAMK's School of Vocational Teacher Education.
By establishing your identity in the cross-institutional study service, you can seek studies at the Tampere University of Applied Sciences and/or Tampere University throughout the academic year. If you have been previously admitted as a cross-institutional student and you wish to apply for additional studies, log in and select your desired additional studies. The application form for the studies in the academic year 2019-2020 opens August 1st.
The right to study granted through the cross-institutional study service only entitles you to take studies you select in the service. The study right is granted for one academic year at a time. However, you have time until 31st of August to complete the studies organised in the summer. If you do not complete the studies before the above mentioned time but you still wish to carry them through, you must reapply for the right to study for the following academic year.
Note! You do not need to apply for studies in the cross-institutional study service
- when seeking studies at your home institution,
- if your own degree entitles you to the concerned studies.
The present degree and exchange students of the Tampere University can apply for studies at Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK) and/or at other campuses (city centre or Kauppi campus (former UTA) or Hervanta campus (former TUT)).
For degree students offered studies are available for viewing in the cross-institutional study service.
For exchange students offered studies are available for viewing in the cross campus studies service.
Below are more detailed instructions for cross-institutional studies both from the perspective of
- exchange students
- degree students
You should check beforehand that studies taken in these institutions will be approved by your home university. TAMK is Erasmus eligible. Please note that cross institutional studies (cross campus studies) will not show on your home campus's transcript. Instead, you will get a separate transcript from each campus or institution upon request.
The maximum amount of cross institutional studies (cross campus studies) is limited to 40% of the exchange studies per semester, and to 10-12 credits for degree students per semester.
Instructions how to apply for the cross institutional studies will be added here later.
As a degree student at the Tampere University, you are often quite free to choose optional studies for your degree. The cross-institutional studies improve your chances of selecting versatile optional studies for your degree.
Note! Before applying for cross-institutional studies, check the instructions of your own faculty regarding study planning and the contents of optional studies. Explore the study offerings in the cross-institutional study service. You can also use the service to apply for the right to study for your desired studies at Tampere University of Applied Sciences and/or city centre or Kauppi campuses (former UTA) or Hervanta campus (former TUT). Sign up for the service with your TUNI account.
How to apply
In order to complete studies at Tampere University of Applied Studies or other than your home campus, you must apply for the right to study for the courses you wish to take. Make sure to apply for the right to study well in advance so that you have enough time to sign up for the studies according to the schedules of each individual institution. To apply, go to the cross-institutional study service, pick your desired courses in your study basket and confirm your application for the right to study. After confirming, it is important to follow the instructions provided by the other institution or campus.
Please note that you do not need to apply for the right to study through the cross-institutional study service if your own degree entitles you to the concerned courses at another institution or campus. These instructions apply to, for example, students studying towards a degree programme in biotechnology and students with a study right in Human-Technology Interaction who are entitled to complete a part of their studies at Hervanta campus / city centre campus. If you feel unsure about the rights to study gained at other institutions through your own degree programme, check with your own faculty.

Obtaining and activating your user account
In order to enroll in courses and complete your studies, you must activate your personal TAMK user account. You will get more information via e-mail.
As you activate your user account, you agree to follow the rules and instructions of TAMK IT systems as well as other TAMK rules and instructions.
Enrollment in course implementations and notification of approved enrolment
Once you have activated your TAMK user account, you can enroll in the studies you selected using the Student's Desktop PAKKI (https://pakki.oma.tamk.fi -> HOPS/Individual Study Plan -> Enrollment). When enrolling, keep in mind that a single course may have several implementation rounds and only a certain course implementation is offered for cross-institutional studies (check the number). Please, check the course schedule, prior knowledge requirements and any other study arrangements from the course implementation plan.
Make sure you enroll well in advance during the relevant enrollment period. See the enrollment schedules for periods 1–4 at TAMK (academic year 2018–2019): https://intra.tamk.fi/web/tutkinto-opinto-opas/ilmoittautuminen-opintojaksoille-2018-2019
Before beginning your studies, check from the Student's Desktop PAKKI that you have been admitted to the correct course implementation (check the number) of the cross-institutional course. Not everyone will necessarily be admitted – students will be selected based on the degree and degree programme priority principle applied at TAMK, and the number of attendees may be limited. TAMK's own students will have priority over cross-institutional students from the Tampere University unless otherwise agreed.
You can find detailed information about timetables and locations from the timetable engine Lukkarikone, https://lukkarit.tamk.fi/. Enter the course number (for example 5T00BJ53-3002) to the search word field.
Please, cancel your enrollment if you are not able to attend the course after all!
Course completion at TAMK
Attend the studies as instructed in the implementation plan and by the responsible teacher.
At TAMK, students will give course feedback on the course implementation or a part of it. The feedback is collected and processed by the responsible teacher. The feedback is used for developing the courses.
The teacher assesses the studies and enters the grade in the TAMK study register. You can see your grades in the Student's Desktop PAKKI.
After course completion
The information on the study attainments and related assessments is automatically transferred from TAMK to your study register at your home institution. Please check your study register.
The credit transfer and the inclusion of the studies in your degree are assessed by your home institution.
