<p>If you are a registered degree student at a Finnish university, you are entitled to apply for minor subject studies at any other Finnish university.&nbsp;This is called the JOO agreement. The studies should be of a nature which you would not be able to undertake in your home university and which can be included in your degree. Both bachelor's, master's and doctoral students can apply for the JOO study right.</p>

JOO studies are free of charge for students, but universities charge each other, and the student's home university pays the study fee. For this reason, when planning JOO studies, you must first obtain the endorsement from your own university for the studies you want to study.</p>

<p>Degree students at Tampere University have the opportunity to apply for courses offered by other Finnish universities under the Flexible Study Right Agreement (JOO). You need to be registered as an attending student at the home university during the JOO studies. The application process for JOO studies is two-step. The application is first processed at the home university (endorsement process), after which the application is sent to the host university for final processing. You may submit a JOO application to Tampere University and request endorsement at any time during the academic year.&nbsp;Tampere University will decide whether to endorse your application within two weeks of submission.</p>

<p>Student Affairs Office will attach a transcript of records to your application. It is recommended to attach your personal study plan with your application.&nbsp;<br>
Student Affairs Office notifies the applicant of the decision and if the application is endorsed by Tampere University, Student Affairs Office will forward it to the host university for consideration.</p>

<h4>Home university approval criteria and preparation of the study plan</h4>

<p>Tampere University will only endorse JOO applications for a justified reason. Endorsement requires that the proposed courses complement your Tampere University degree and are not available at the University. In your JOO application, you must list all the courses that you are interested in completing at the host university. If completing the proposed courses at the host university would mean that you exceed the minimum number of credits required for your degree, your JOO application will only be endorsed for a compelling reason. The JOO applications of first-year students will generally be endorsed no sooner than the spring semester (for courses starting next autumn) and only for a justified reason. Please carefully read the endorsement criteria defined by Tampere University and your own faculty.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<br>
You must attach your JOO application with personal study plan and/or a statement that indicates how the proposed courses will complement your Tampere University degree. In addition, doctoral students must attach their JOO application with a statement by their supervising professor.</p>

<h4>Duration of the flexible study right</h4>

<p>Your flexible JOO study right will remain valid for up to two years. However, your JOO study right will expire when your right to study in your home university ends. If you have not completed your JOO courses when your flexible study rights expires, you will have to submit a new JOO application to take part in the courses.&nbsp;</p>

<h4>Credit transfer</h4>

<p>The process of transferring JOO credits towards your home university degree should be managed through the&nbsp;<a href="https://sis-tuni.funidata.fi/student/frontpage">Sisu&nbsp;study information system</a>. &nbsp;Write in Sisu's application for transferring credits that the application concerns JOO studies and provide the necessary additional information about the studies you have completed. You can also view and share your study information from the national <a href="https://opintopolku.fi/oma-opintopolku/">My Studyinfo service</a>.</p>

<h4>Endorsement from home university</h4>

<p>Send the endorsement from your home university to <a href="https://www.tuni.fi/en/about-us/student-affairs-office">Student Affairs Office</a> either by mail or secure email. Guide how to send a secure email (coming).&nbsp;<br>
The faculty will process the application and makes the decision on granting the study right. Student Affairs Office notifies the applicant of the decision. &nbsp;If the study right is granted, Student Affairs Office will register the JOO study right and sends the instructions on starting the studies.</p>

<h4>Application periods for flexible studies</h4>

<p>Tampere University reviews JOO applications as they arrive on a rolling basis, so you can submit an application at any time during the academic year. However, you must submit your application well in advance, at least one month before your proposed JOO course is scheduled to begin. The application process for JOO studies is two-step. <h4>Admission criteria for a flexible study right</h4>

<p>The approval of JOO applications will be contingent upon the availability of the necessary resources at the host university and the receiving unit. Host universities will primarily accept JOO applications for basic and intermediate studies. Under the JOO agreements, students may only be admitted to advanced-level courses and individual courses for special reasons. If there are limited places available on a popular course, the host universities will give preference to their own students. In some subjects, such as languages, students will be required to take a placement test.&nbsp;If Tampere University accepts your JOO application, please note that you will only be able to attend the courses listed in your application.&nbsp;</p>

<p><br>
JOO students may complete no more than two courses in the Licentiate Degree Programme in Medicine at Tampere University. JOO students may attend tutorials and lectures but not the sessions where medical students are taught practical, interactional or clinical skills where information on patients is discussed. Consequently, JOO students will be awarded fewer credits upon completion of the courses than as indicated in the study guide.</p>

Almost all the courses offered by Tampere University in the fields of engineering are open to JOO students. Admission may be restricted, for example, to courses in architecture.</p>

<p lang="en-US"><strong>Duration of the flexible study right</strong></p>
