Student ambassadors

Do you want to take part in some fun and meaningful activities alongside studies and earn ECTS credits? Would you like to promote Tampere and Finland as a best place to study and live? Share your experiences in a blog text or in Instagram? Discuss with potential applicants online and in student recruitment fairs and other events? Come and contribute to the student ambassador activities of Tampere University and join the community of student influencers.

Tampere Student Ambassadors study in our English-taught degree programmes. They act as a link between the university and the outside community.

To promote the university and Tampere in general, Student Ambassadors are active both on campus and on the internet. As a student ambassador you have a central role in marketing our degree programmes as peer information is invaluable.

As a Student Ambassador you will

  • gain valuable work experience
  • polish your communication skills and gain experience in public speaking
  • make good friends, build networks and meet students from other campuses
  • be able to earn 2 ECTS credits (from academic year 2021-2022 onwards)
  • earn some extra money

Unibuddy

Your main task as a Student Ambassador is to answer the questions of potential applicants and prospective students online by using the Unibuddy platform.

Social media

In academic year 2023-2024 all student ambassadors are part of the Content Crew. In the Content Crew you get to make content on our

  • Instagram account @tampereuni (reels, stories, takeover, My Day, photo carousels)
  • Student Ambassadors’ blog page (blog text and photos)
  • YouTube channel “Tampere University” (video blogs, YouTube Shorts)
  • …or somewhere else? Tell us your ideas!

Other activities

You may represent Tampere University also in webinars, campus visits, study fairs (both online and offline) and other events. You will often work together with TAMK student ambassadors, as well as your peer student ambassadors studying in the Finnish-taught degree programmes (ie. opiskelijalähettiläät). There are both compensated and voluntary activities.

Cool! How can I apply?

We recruit new Student Ambassadors once a year. Application is open April-August and the application form will be published in intranet. Both new and continuing ambassadors need to apply annually.

In academic year 2023-2024 we are limiting the number of student ambassadors to 15 students. We are looking for a diverse group of students from different study fields and different parts of the world. Ambassadors will be selected based on the skills and previous experience showed in the application form. If needed, interviews will be held. Results will be announced to all applicants by email.

Student Ambassadors work for the whole academic year or one semester only, if agreed upon. If you want to continue after your first year, you will need to re-apply.

A good student ambassador

  • is familiar with social media platforms and knows how to produce content for them
  • knows how to take photos or produce videos
  • is fluent in English, both in speaking and in writing
  • is ready to commit to the student ambassador activities
  • is reliable, has self-initiative and keeps agreed schedules
  • is an encouraging team player and wish to learn working life skills such as communication, performing and interaction skills

Training

We train our student ambassadors in the beginning of each academic year. The trainings are compulsory. All student ambassadors need to attend the trainings in autumn and the monthly content crew meetings.

Compensation

In academic year 2023-2024 all our student ambassadors will receive a 150€ compensation for their content crew duties which include: attending the trainings and taking part of the monthly meetings and creating one blog post and one IG post (story, reels) per semester. You will also receive Unibuddy compensation (requires activity).

Other events and activities are paid a set sum. For example, a basic compensation for attending a virtual event is 40€. More information on the compensation model will be given in the training.

The compensation will be paid to your Finnish bank account, and you will need to have a personal banking ID or Mobile ID for strong authentication. All payments are taxable income which means that you will need a Finnish tax card to receive the payments. In addition to monetary compensation you will also receive a Tampere University t-shirt and a reference for your CV.

ECTS

From academic year 2021-2022 onwards, you will also be able to earn 2 ECTS credits. In order to receive the credits you will need to participate the student ambassador activities at least for one academic year, attend the trainings, complete set activities and respond to a feedback survey. The credits can be granted once only.

Administration

We use Moodle and Teams to coordinate and communicate Student Ambassador activities. You will receive the Moodle key in the first training. In Moodle you will find all training material and the gigs available as well as more detailed information on the compensation. In addition to the Moodle, there will also be a Teams channel for the whole content crew (includes the domestic content crew members as well).
