Your identification and registration with the University will take place online and before your arrival and the Welcome Week of the spring semester 2024. The registration with the University is required for all exchange students and is free of charge. The identification process is organised 15 June - 15 July 2024 for exchange students starting their studies in the autumn semester 2024.

To get started with your exchange studies you will need to complete our identification process and activate your Tampere University user account (TUNI account). TUNI account is used to access the university email, the information system Sisu, different online learning platforms and the most important - for <a href="https://www.tuni.fi/en/students-guide/handbook/uni/exchange-studies/information-exchange-students-university/registration-courses-and-study-practices-exchange-students" rel="noopener" target="_blank">final registrations for teaching period I courses</a> (registration period is 1 - 19 August 2024). The most likely deadline for most course registrations is 19 August 2024, however, some courses might have a longer registration period.

The purpose of the identification process is to verify your identity before sending the personal activation instructions to you. The identification process is done fully online and is mandatory for all exchange students regardless of your arrival date.

	<li>A smartphone with camera</li>
	<li>Your official ID (preferably a <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biometric_passport" rel="noopener" target="_blank">biometric passport</a>)</li>
	<li>The Finnish Authenticator mobile app (from <a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fi.suomi.authenticator.android&amp;hl=en_US&amp;gl=US" rel="noopener" target="_blank">Google Play</a> or <a href="https://apps.apple.com/us/app/finnish-authenticator/id1514412972" rel="noopener" target="_blank">App Store</a>) or an electronic ID that comply with eIDAS (read more on <a href="https://www.suomi.fi/instructions-and-support/identification/how-to-identify-yourself-in-an-e-service/identification-methods-for-foreigners/identification-tokens-of-other-countries" rel="noopener" target="_blank">identification tokens of other EU/EEA countries</a>) - use your national (EU/EEA) login credentials whenever it is possible</li>

<h4>Good to know:</h4>

<ul>
	<li>Note that a driving licence is not valid for the verification of your identity. You can verify your identity with your passport. If you are a citizen of an EU Member State or a citizen of San Marino, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland, you may alternatively take a photo of your official photo identity card</li>
	<li>For some countries and its citizens electronic IDs that comply with eIDAS can be used instead of the Finnish Authenticator mobile app, this is highly recommended, check the eligible countries on <a href="https://www.suomi.fi/instructions-and-support/identification/how-to-identify-yourself-in-an-e-service/identification-methods-for-foreigners/identification-tokens-of-other-countries" rel="noopener" target="_blank">identification tokens of other&nbsp;</a><a href="https://www.suomi.fi/instructions-and-support/identification/how-to-identify-yourself-in-an-e-service/identification-methods-for-foreigners/identification-tokens-of-other-countries" rel="noopener" target="_blank">EU/EEA</a><a href="https://www.suomi.fi/instructions-and-support/identification/how-to-identify-yourself-in-an-e-service/identification-methods-for-foreigners/identification-tokens-of-other-countries" rel="noopener" target="_blank"> countries</a></li>
	<li>Take a photo of only the passport's personal data page, not the entire opening</li>
	<li>Avoid reflections and shadows on the document surface</li>
	<li>Be careful not to cover any part of the ID with your fingers</li>
	<li>The identification service will not accept poor quality images</li>
	<li>Take a photo of yourself against a white background</li>
	<li>Place the camera in front of your face. Look into the camera and follow the instructions provided by the application</li>
	<li>If you have a Finnish citizenship along with a personal identity code or a Finnish online banking IDs, you do not need to use the Finnish Authenticator Identification Service. In this case, you can identify yourself by using <a href="https://palveluhallinta.suomi.fi/en/sivut/tunnistus/esittely" rel="noopener" target="_blank">Suomi.fi e-identification</a></li>

The general requirements for an online identification, autumn semester 2024

The identification process is organised 15 June - 15 July 2024. More details will be sent in summer 2024 (June, tentative) to all admitted exchange students and some additional instructions might be given during our online <a href="https://www.tuni.fi/en/students-guide/handbook/uni/exchange-studies/pre-arrival-information-exchange-students/welcome-week-exchange-students" rel="noopener" target="_blank">pre-arrival information session</a> in summer 2024.

	<li>Please check your email for detailed instructions (sending date TBA), the title of the automated email is Tervetuloa Tampereen korkeakouluyhteisöön \&nbsp;Welcome&nbsp;to&nbsp;the&nbsp;Tampere&nbsp;Universities) - see spam folder as well</li>
	<li>Please complete the online identification process according to the instructions</li>

The step-by-step instructions, autumn semester 2024

Once you have confirmed your housing offer, please add your Finnish address as your primary address in Sisu and update the rest of your personal information. This action is mandatory for all exchange students and is a part of emergency policy at Tampere University.

<h4>Instructions on how to update your contacy information in Sisu:</h4>

<ol>
	<li>Log in to your <a href="https://sis-tuni.funidata.fi/student/login" rel="noopener" target="_blank">Sisu account</a> and click on your name on the up right of the main page</li>
	<li>Then, click on My profile</li>
	<li>Basic information page appears. Click on edit on the right side</li>
	<li>Now, you are able to edit your contact information</li>
	<li>Add your Finnish address as your primary address, your mobile phone number in Finland (either Finnish or the one you use here) and your secondary email address</li>
	<li>Finally, press Save</li>
</ol>

The contact information can be used to send <a href="https://www.tuni.fi/en/students-guide/handbook/uni/university/security/osaava-crisis-communications-system" rel="noopener" target="_blank">real-time emergency notifications</a> via email and text message (SMS).

Updating your contact information in the information system Sisu

The certificate of student status is a free-of-charge certificate of attendance available to all Tampere University's exchange students. You can use a certificate of student status to prove that you are a Tampere University student in cases where your student card is not ready yet or it is insufficient.

The certificate is also a requirement for the <a href="https://www.tuni.fi/en/students-guide/handbook/uni/exchange-studies/information-exchange-students-university/registration-authorities-new-exchange-students" rel="noopener" target="_blank">DVV's online registration</a> and at student restaurants* to get your student discounts right after arrival and before you get your student card.

*The certificate is valid only in Tampere and during the start of semesters, August-September or January. Later an official Finnish student card is required to prove your student status
