Tampere University Student's Handbook

Graduation schedules

The graduation schedule depends on the time all the student’s studies have been registered in the academic record and the date of the application request in the SISU system. This page describes the indicative graduation schedule for the current semester, which may differ by faculty or degree programme. Confirm the exact schedule from your faculty or degree programme. Please note that you can submit a graduation request and graduate at any time during the academic year, but during the summer and Christmas breaks, the processing of graduation requests may take longer than usual. Faculties and degree programmes decide on the exact dates of their summer and Christmas breaks.

Graduation in spring semester 2024

Graduation is applied via the Sisu system. At the time of application, all the studies in the degree must be completed and entered in the academic record, including the thesis and maturity test. The student's study plan also needs to be in order and any custom course unit attainments must be approved. Only a student who has enrolled as present can graduate.

The graduation day recorded on the diploma is the day when the request for graduation has been received and it has been verified that the student has completed all the studies included in the degree. In practice, the date of graduation is thus usually the date of the graduation application. If study attainments that are part of the degree are entered in the student’s academic record after graduation request, the day of graduation will be the day of the last study attainment.

Faculties reserve three weeks (21 days) at the most for processing the graduation request. By submitting your graduation request by 22 May 2024, you can rest assured that your diploma will be completed and delivered to you before the faculties begin their summer break. Graduation requests submitted after this deadline will be processed as soon as possible, but no later than after the faculty’s summer break.

Thesis and maturity test

The thesis that is included in the degree is usually one of the last study attainments. The exact schedule of assessing the thesis is separately agreed with the thesis supervisor. The supervisor also provides further instructions on the originality checking of the text using the Turnitin system and submitting the thesis for assessment via the Trepo system. The originality checking must be done before the completed thesis is submitted for assessment. Please also see these pages for further information: bachelor’s thesismaster’s thesis and master’s thesis in technology and architecture.

When the abstract of the thesis also serves as the maturity test, the reviewers of the thesis must provide their statements within three weeks (21 days) after the thesis has been submitted for assessment. The results of theses submitted for assessment between June 1 and August 31 can be announced within a longer period than mentioned above.

Please note! In summer, the Library will have a two-week break when theses are not processed.

Further information for supervisors and teachers about maturity tests

In the academic year of 2023—2024, the abstract of the thesis is used as the maturity test. When necessary, the student submits the abstract to Language Centre for checking. In spring semester 2024, maturity tests that are meant to be assessed must be submitted to Language Centre for checking by 10 May 2024. After the summer break, language revisers assess maturity tests from the beginning of August.
