Studying and Participation in Education

Studying and Participation in Education

Education is carried out within four periods. The detailed schedules can be found in the overall timetable. The studies and education are organised as courses. The competence objectives, contents and teaching methods are described in the curricula.

To be able to participate in education, you have to register for attendance or alternatively for non-attendance each academic year. Detailed information on registration is available in the degree regulations (§ 11).

You enrol on courses through Pakki. The enrolment times can be found in the enrolment schedule.

Completing Courses

The online course implementation plan describes the working methods, requirements, completion order, timetable and assessment criteria of the course or a part of the course. They are discussed in more detail on the first contact lesson. If prerequisites have been defined for the course, they have to be participated in. The prerequisites have to be completed before the beginning of the course apart from exceptions defined by the director of education. If the studies require compulsory attendance, the teacher has written it into the implementation plan.

You have the right to personal student counselling during your whole study time. It is your obligation to participate in student counselling. You are in charge of your study progress.

The instructions related to participation in education, assessment, and retake of courses are available in the degree regulations (§ 19-24).

Compliance with Ethical Practices in Studies

TAMK applies National Advisory Board on Research Ethics' guidelines on good scientific practice and procedures for handling misconduct and fraud in science. The board was nominated by the Ministry of Education and Culture.

Honesty, carefulness and ethically sound practices are followed in making reports, assignments, theses, and other equivalent studies at TAMK. For example, insufficient references, misleading reporting of results, or publication of same results as seemingly new ones violate ethically sound practice. Presentation of false information, presentation of others' results or text as one's own or plagiarism are deceit, which naturally cannot be accepted.  Should you offend, you may be disciplined depending on the severity of the offence either with a warning or by expelling you for a year at the most.
