Advanced Studies on Gender, 80 cr

Description

The advanced studies includes core courses (Introduction to the Master's Degree Programme in Gender Studies, Gendered and sexualized society, Feminist theory, Feminist methodology and research design, Feminist politics), thesis related courses, and thesis studies. The emphasis on the second year is placed on thesis studies. The thesis studies and particularly the thesis seminar during the second year is the core forum where the students develop, promote and present papers for the Master's thesis. The students develop and practice their research competencies on gendered, sexualized and racialized social problems.

Objectives

Upon completion of the advanced studies, students will:
- command a critical working knowledge of theories of gender, sexuality and racialisation
- possess in-depth knowledge in their own area of specialization within Gender Studies
- be able to ask and respond to significant and critical questions in the field
- confidently deliver presentations in their area of specialization in the context of Gender Studies and feminist, queer, trans and anti-racist research
- be fully competent in a range of research methods, including researching relevant literature, identifying and collecting relevant data, and producing analyses conforming to academic conventions
- have the ability to work independently and in groups
