  • Main factors affecting adhesive bonds at material interfaces
  • Surface characteristics: Wetting and surface energy
  • Importance of adhesion to material performance
  • Concepts of crack, fracture and delamination
  • Understands scientific thinking, reasoning and explanation
Complementary knowledge
  • The student is able to solve possible adhesion problems in different production processes and can predict functionality of materials in terms of adhesion at bonds.
  • Contact angle measurements
  • Specific surface treatment and modification methods (e.g. corona, flame, plasma, chemical modification (primers, adhesion promoters)
  • Numerical models for bond failure
