English as a lingua franca, 5 cr
- Description
- Completion options
This course provides a bird’s-eye view on the role of English as a global lingua franca. How did English become an international language and what are the consequences and considerations that should be taken into account when a language goes global? We will also discuss what the past twenty years of empirical study into English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) have brought forth and where to go from here. The fairly broad topics covered in the course will also help students to further construct their overall concept of ‘language’ in general.
