Tearaway Unfolded is an extended PS4 remake of the earlier Tearaway PS Vita title. Rather than\u00a0being just a graphics update, it converts the control scheme to take full advantage of the PS4\u2019s\u00a0interaction possibilities.<\/p>\n
The story begins as the player takes control of a paper doll character that takes on a mission to\u00a0deliver a message to a portal in the sky. Simultaneously mysterious bird-like creatures that want to\u00a0replace everything colorful with boring newspaper are attacking the game world, also built totally\u00a0out of paper cutouts. Towards the end, the narrative wonders into more metaphysical directions.\u00a0Advancing in the game is quite straightforward, however there are constantly collectibles and\u00a0additional challenges to explore.<\/p>\n
In the beginning the character doesn\u2019t even know how to jump, but gradually more and more\u00a0actions become available. Most of them require creative use of the controller. For example, the\u00a0player is often asked to draw shapes with the touch pad, which are then added permanently to the\u00a0world. The companion mobile app and camera are also supported but not necessary.<\/p>\n
The playability is generally good, despite some camera problems and occasional bugs. Fighting\u00a0monsters is often more annoying than fun, though. In later levels, the focus is luckily more on\u00a0simple platform puzzles. The environments are imaginative and the creative use of the controller\u00a0keeps the playing interesting. Unfortunately the characters are paper-thin also when it comes to\u00a0their personality, and the story doesn\u2019t really take off. This keeps Tearaway Unfolded from fully\u00a0reaching its potential.<\/p>\n
