After the events of Enter the <\/span><\/span>Gungeon<\/span><\/span>, the titular dungeon has begun to collapse in on itself, and\u00a0<\/span><\/span>the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>gungeoneers<\/span><\/span>\u00a0have decided to evacuate. Problem is, the entrance has been blocked so the only way out is through the elevator system<\/span><\/span>, and the dungeon\u2019s denizens are going to carry out their duty to the bitter end.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The<\/span><\/span>\u00a0lobby\u2019s atmosphere is\u00a0<\/span><\/span>pretty calm,<\/span><\/span>\u00a0consider<\/span><\/span>ing<\/span><\/span>\u00a0the circumstances.<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Exit the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Gungeon<\/span><\/span>\u00a0is a side<\/span><\/span>–<\/span><\/span>scroller action\u00a0<\/span><\/span>gam<\/span><\/span>e with a name as straightforward as they come. Your objective is to exit\u00a0<\/span><\/span>the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Gungeon<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Simple.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>The stories of the characters and the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Gungeon<\/span><\/span>\u00a0itself were<\/span><\/span>\u00a0already<\/span><\/span>\u00a0explained in Enter the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Gungeon<\/span><\/span>,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>to\u00a0<\/span><\/span>whi<\/span><\/span>ch Exit is just a light sequel.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>The gameplay does<\/span><\/span>n\u2019<\/span><\/span>t go deeper in terms of complexity<\/span><\/span>\u00a0either<\/span><\/span>, with the main attractio<\/span><\/span>n being the difficult bullet hell action<\/span><\/span>\u00a0that doesn\u2019t leave you with any time to think about stories anyway. The playing area is very l<\/span><\/span>imited and often comes with some added difficulty in the form of moving, shooting, or disappearing platforms, while enemies constantly sp<\/span><\/span>awn around you.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Each playable character, of which there are seven, has their own route and unique types of floors to climb through<\/span><\/span>, so you won\u2019t get bored of the vistas too fast.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

To add to the challenge, your gun keeps changing forms constantly<\/span><\/span>\u00a0without your control,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>and you<\/span><\/span>\u2019ll<\/span><\/span>\u00a0never know when your laser rifle\u00a0<\/span><\/span>will<\/span><\/span>\u00a0turn into a dinky pistol\u00a0<\/span><\/span>all of a sudden<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0On the contrary, it might also turn into a cannon that annihilates the entire room with one shot.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>The transformation is not entirely random though, for the longer you can remain without taking damage, the better the weapons you\u2019ll get are.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0This is also where one of\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Gungeon\u2019s<\/span><\/span>\u00a0greatest strengths comes into play \u2013 the arsenal. The game<\/span><\/span>\u00a0has an immense pool of different weapons to throw at you, from bog standard rifles to fantastical weapons like the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Crown of Guns that rapidly shoots in each direction simultaneously. The weapons are also a treasure trove of pop-culture references from movies to ga<\/span><\/span>mes to comics, and you\u2019re prone to recognize at least something no matter\u00a0<\/span><\/span>your level of knowledge on the subject.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Can\u2019t miss if you shoot everywhere.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Exit the\u00a0<\/span>Gungeon<\/span>\u00a0is not nearly as polished and filled with content as its predecessor, but it\u2019s not supposed to. The game was primarily designed for ha<\/span>ndheld consoles and mobile gaming,<\/span>\u00a0so the controls and menus ha<\/span>d to<\/span>\u00a0be made a certain way.\u00a0<\/span>This is by no means a critique<\/span>, as the game is<\/span>\u00a0loads of<\/span>\u00a0fun and\u00a0<\/span>holds up on PC<\/span>, even if it feels a bit simplistic, but for an indie\u00a0<\/span>production<\/span>\u00a0that\u2019ll cost you less than 10\u20ac, it<\/span>\u2019s a damn good game.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If you want fast action and a level of difficulty that ensures you\u2019ll be buying a new keyboard soon, Exit the\u00a0<\/span>Gungeon<\/span>\u00a0is for you. How<\/span>ever, mentioning it\u2019s older sibling, Enter the\u00a0<\/span>Gungeon<\/span>, is a must, since every single hour of Enter will make you appreciate Ex<\/span>it\u00a0<\/span>all the more<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>It is<\/span>\u00a0a\u00a0<\/span>spin-off but<\/span>\u00a0can proudly stand on its\u00a0<\/span>own and is sure to give you many hectic hours of gameplay.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
