The\u00a0<\/span>T\u2019au<\/span>\u00a0Empire<\/span>\u00a0Pathfinder team is a\u00a0<\/span>set of 13 miniature figures<\/span>\u00a0by Games Workshop<\/span>\u00a0for the<\/span>\u00a0sci-fi<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>miniature wargame Warhammer 40,000, in which players control an army of their own<\/span>\u00a0making<\/span>\u00a0and battle\u00a0<\/span>against an opposing player\u00a0<\/span>to<\/span>\u00a0complete objectives\u00a0<\/span>and<\/span>\u00a0gather the most victory points\u00a0<\/span>to<\/span>\u00a0win the game.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If\u00a0<\/span><\/i>only<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/i>the<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/i>background<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/i>w<\/span><\/i>ere<\/span><\/i>\u00a0as\u00a0<\/span><\/i>interesting<\/span><\/i>\u00a0as\u00a0<\/span><\/i>the<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/i>models<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/i>themselves<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Miniatures are a type of scale model that you must glue together and then paint from scratch<\/span>\u00a0all by yourself. A box of miniatures<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>is<\/span>\u00a0only<\/span>\u00a0a kit of several plastic sprues,<\/span>\u00a0from which you must cut off the pieces yourself with a pair of pliers. After that you can begin gluing the parts together in any way you like<\/span>, and finally paint them yourself.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This squad of Pathfinders is one of the\u00a0<\/span>core units of an army of\u00a0<\/span>T\u2019au<\/span>, one of the playable and collectable factions in 40K. The <\/span>T\u2019au<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>are a race of aliens that rely on their superior technology to win their battles against the more physically capable\u00a0<\/span>races, and this focus is present perfectly\u00a0<\/span>in this small group. Th<\/span>e<\/span>\u00a0kit comes with enough parts to create ten soldiers on foot and three AI controlled drones, as well\u00a0<\/span>as a bunch of spare parts like arms and helmets<\/span>. The soldiers can<\/span>\u00a0be built in quite a few different poses thanks to the<\/span>\u00a0combination of<\/span>\u00a0varying pairs of legs and\u00a0<\/span>arms<\/span>, and the drones can be customized for a few different purposes, like generating shields or just plain old shooting.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

An as-of-<\/span><\/i>yet<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/i>unpainted<\/span><\/i>\u00a0gun\u00a0<\/span><\/i>drone<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Some of the older miniature kits from Games Workshop<\/span>\u00a0don\u2019t have nearly as\u00a0<\/span>much<\/span>\u00a0variety in the different possible poses available, so for a beginner like\u00a0<\/span>me<\/span>, this is\u00a0<\/span>good practice both in terms of assembly and painting.<\/span>\u00a0The soldiers can be equipped with scanners, binoculars, and grenades, all of which offer different painting possibilities and make the whole process more interesting with their variety.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He\u2019s<\/span><\/i>\u00a0a<\/span><\/i>\u00a0bit\u00a0of a<\/span><\/i>\u00a0mess,\u00a0<\/span><\/i>but<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/i>he\u2019s<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/i>my\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/b>mess<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Buying this kit will cost you a hefty 30<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>e<\/span>uros<\/span>, which sounds like a hell of a price for 13 plastic toys, but as someone who has been\u00a0<\/span>window shopping quite a bit in terms of this hobby, 30<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>e<\/span>uros<\/span>\u00a0doesn\u2019t sound like much anymore.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>I<\/span>f you\u2019re unsure whether the hobby is for you,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Games Workshop sells<\/span>\u00a0three-model<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>starter sets that come with paints and a brush<\/span>\u00a0for the same price<\/span>, which is arguably a better starting point for your first steps.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Miniature painting is not a cheap hobby by any means, and that\u2019s a rough reality you\u00a0<\/span>have to<\/span>\u00a0face when starting from the ground up.<\/span>\u00a0T<\/span>hough t<\/span>o call them \u201ctoys\u201d is a misleading, for I can assure you that you won\u2019t find any toys as detailed as this from any toy section of your local s<\/span>hopping centre<\/span>s.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Personally, I\u2019ve loved painting these bad boys up, and they\u2019ve only made<\/span>\u00a0me<\/span>\u00a0excited to start building up a\u00a0<\/span>full-sized<\/span>\u00a0army someday.\u00a0<\/span>I can hear my wallet screaming in horror already.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
