Patchwork is a casual<\/span>, cute\u00a0<\/span>and simple boardgame for two players<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>E<\/span>ach player manages their time and\u00a0<\/span>money<\/span>\u00a0(buttons) to fill their\u00a0<\/span>quilt-<\/span>board with a colourful patchwork.<\/span>\u00a0The game<\/span>play<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>is<\/span>\u00a0essentially<\/span>\u00a0about\u00a0<\/span>balancing resources t<\/span>o<\/span>\u00a0be able to<\/span>\u00a0fill as much space on the<\/span>\u00a0quilt-<\/span>board as possible<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0Filling the board happens by \u201csewing\u201d different shaped patch-pieces on a \u201cquilt\u201d.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>The more space is covered on a quilt-board after end of the game, the more points player gains.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Players start with 5 buttons, and an empty quilt-board each. Players then place their player-token on the time-board, that is used to record the amount of the time left in the game. The time-board has two features which take place once a player-token passes a special square. The first player passing a special patch square, receives a<\/span><\/span>\u00a0free<\/span><\/span>\u00a01×1 size square<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span>\u00a0that they can freely place on their own quilt-board. When a player passes a button income square on the board, the player then receives the number of buttons displayed on the patches on their<\/span><\/span>\u00a0own<\/span><\/span>\u00a0quilt-board.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On their turn player can buy patches to advance their patchwork, or to move their player-token on the time-board to earn more buttons for future purchases. After purchasing a patch, the player places it on their quilt-board, and moves their player token forward on the time-board as many spaces as indicated on the purchased patch. This symbols the time that it takes to \u201csew\u201d the patchwork onto the quilt-board. Once both players reach the end of the time-board, the game ends, and the player with most points wins. Each empty square, that was not filled with patchwork, is worth negative 2 points and each button token the player has is worth 1 point. The player who first fills 7×7 square of spaces on their quilt-board receives a special tile, which is worth 7 points.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Patchwork is<\/span>\u00a0easy to learn, fun<\/span>, quick<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>a\u00a0<\/span>casual boardgame<\/span>. The rules of the game are explained under 5 minutes and\u00a0<\/span>jumping into the game as a new player feels effortless.<\/span>\u00a0The game is small and compact, it takes around 15 minutes to play, 2 minutes to set up and a minute to pack up again.\u00a0<\/span>The game<\/span>\u00a0art<\/span>\u00a0with all its buttons and colourful patches<\/span>\u00a0gives a cute and comfortable feel to the game<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>The game is fast-paced, and there is not really any downtime between turns.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Fitting the patch-pieces together on your quilt-board\u00a0<\/span>challenges the players\u00a0<\/span>to use their<\/span>\u00a0geometrical<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>problem<\/span>–<\/span>solving<\/span>\u00a0skills<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0It can be surprisingly hard to\u00a0<\/span>figure out<\/span>\u00a0how the pieces could best fit together on your own board. Planning and placing of the patches feel<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>similar to<\/span>\u00a0fitting the\u00a0<\/span>block<\/span>s together in Te<\/span>tris.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>While playing Patchwork, I<\/span>\u00a0am<\/span>\u00a0personally<\/span>\u00a0not too worried about\u00a0<\/span>scoring<\/span>\u00a0points, but fitting those pieces together and\u00a0<\/span>seeing my patchwork grow brings me\u00a0<\/span>a\u00a0<\/span>sense of contentment.\u00a0<\/span>Finding a perfect fit for a piece on your board feels<\/span>\u00a0really satisfying<\/span>!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Patchwork\u00a0<\/span>is a game suitable for most people, it is quick<\/span>\u00a0and easy<\/span>\u00a0to learn<\/span>\u00a0and to play<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>However,\u00a0<\/span>Patchwork<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>might not fit those\u00a0<\/span>players who are\u00a0<\/span>hungry for complex strategic\u00a0<\/span>games<\/span>\u00a0but<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>it\u00a0<\/span>is\u00a0<\/span>an\u00a0<\/span>excellent\u00a0<\/span>choice\u00a0<\/span>for\u00a0<\/span>people<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>who\u00a0<\/span>enjoy casual and quick boardgames.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
