Se sijoittuu autiolle saarelle, jossa pelaajan teht\u00e4v\u00e4n\u00e4 on selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 saaren mysteeri\u00e4 ratkaisemalla erilaisia ongelmia.<\/p>\n<p>Itse pelin tarinasta on l\u00e4hestulkoon mahdoton sanoa mit\u00e4\u00e4n. Ei siksi ett\u00e4 siit\u00e4 paljastaisi liikaa vaan koska peli on tarinankerronnaltaan t\u00e4ysin minimalistinen. Se ei sis\u00e4ll\u00e4 lainkaan dialogia, alku- tai v\u00e4lianimaatioita eik\u00e4 mink\u00e4\u00e4nlaista tekstikerrontaa ja vaikka peliss\u00e4 l\u00f6yt\u00e4\u00e4 \u00e4\u00e4nikasetteja, niiden sis\u00e4lt\u00f6 koostuu lainauksista historiallisilta henkil\u00f6ilt\u00e4.<\/p>\n<p>Tavallaan ratkaisu toimii hyvin sill\u00e4 se luo pelille mysteerisen tunnelman ja t\u00e4ten antaa pelaajalle mahdollisuuden tehd\u00e4 omat tulkintansa pelin tarinasta. Toisaalta jos pelaaja ei n\u00e4e vaivaa etsi\u00e4kseen varta vasten tarinallisia elementtej\u00e4, j\u00e4\u00e4 pelikokemus silt\u00e4 osin todella olemattomaksi.<\/p>\n<p>Sama minimalistinen toteutus jatkuu my\u00f6s pelisuunnittelun puolella ja pelin pulmat rakentuvatkin kaikki saman sokkelopohjaisen k\u00e4ytt\u00f6liittym\u00e4n p\u00e4\u00e4lle. Pulmien n\u00e4enn\u00e4isen yksinkertainen tavoite on vain piirt\u00e4\u00e4 viiva sokkelon alkupisteest\u00e4 sen loppupisteelle. T\u00e4t\u00e4 samaa pohjaa kuitenkin osataan k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 todella monipuolisesti hyv\u00e4ksi. Jumiin j\u00e4\u00e4dess\u00e4 avoin saariymp\u00e4rist\u00f6 kuitenkin mahdollistaa sen ett\u00e4 pelaaja voi tutkia saarta lis\u00e4\u00e4 l\u00f6yt\u00e4\u00e4kseen erilaisen pulman ratkottavaksi. Kuitenkin jos pelaaja j\u00e4\u00e4 kaikissa pulmissa t\u00e4ysin jumiin j\u00e4\u00e4 oikeastaan ainoaksi vaihtoehdoksi etsi\u00e4 apua internetist\u00e4.<\/p>\n<p>Pelin isoin ongelma on se, ett\u00e4 kaikki pulmat lopulta kuitenkin rakentuvat samanlaisen pohjan p\u00e4\u00e4lle. Vaikka niiss\u00e4 on paljon vaihtelua eri elementtien ja ratkaisuvaatimusten muodossa, pelin loppupuolella ruudukkojen tuijotus on jo hieman puuduttavaa.<\/p>\n<p>Kokonaisuutena The Witness on silti ehdottomasti suosittelemisen arvoinen kaikille haastavista pulmapeleist\u00e4 kiinnostuneille.
