Competence Module in Responsible Business and Sustainability, Open University Studies

Sisällön kuvaus

The module focuses on core themes and issues related to corporate
responsibility and sustainability in business, such as business ethics,
stakeholder management, responsibility reporting, environmental
responsibility and sustainability practices in various kinds of
organisations. The studies include various learning methods, such as
lectures, essays, group work, and exams and the study topics are
illustrated with practical case examples. The module includes both
lecture and independent study options.  

Osaamistavoitteet

Having completed the module, the student recognises and understands the
elements of responsible and sustainable business.  The student
understands the relationships between social, environmental, and
economic issues in business and is familiar with the challenges related
to their interlinkages. The student knows the theoretical underpinnings
of business ethics, corporate social responsibility, and sustainability.
The student is able to identify and apply tools for organisational
accountability and responsible business practices.

The Competence module Responsible business and sustainability consists of four courses, each 5 ECTS.

To complete the module (module grade), the students are required to complete a minimum of 20 ECTS including courses KAT.VAST.202, 204, 206, 208.

Teaching language: English

The TUNI-degree students and Open University students study in same study groups.

Please, note that it´s strongly recommended to start this module by the course KAT.VAST.202.

All courses each have two or more courses during the academic year 2022-2023, student enroll to one course e.g KAT.VAST.202 Lectures or KAT.VAST.202 Online teaching.

Course-information:
KAT.VAST.202 Business ethics (Yritysetiikka) Lectures 5 ECTS: autumn 2022, period I. This is a lecture course. Lectures will be held on Thursdays 1.9.-13.10.2022 from 8-12 at Tampere University. Students are required to participate to the lectures and complete the course in English.

KAT.VAST.202 Business ethics (Yritysetiikka) Online teaching 5 ECTS: 24.10.–11.12.2022. This is the independent online course for Business ethics. The course can be completed in English or Finnish.
OR
KAT.VAST.202 Business Ethics (Yritysetiikka) Online course 5 ECTS: This is the independent online course for Business ethics 9.1.–14.5.2023. You can complete the course in English or Finnish. This course consists of a book exam and written assignments.
OR
KAT.VAST.202 Business Ethics (Yritysetiikka) Online course 5 ECTS: This is the independent online course for Business ethics 15.5.–31.7.2023. You can complete the course in English or Finnish. This course consists of a book exam and written assignments.

KAT.VAST.204 Corporate social responsibility reporting, Lectures 5 ECTS: in autumn 2022, II -period 24.10.–29.11.2022. Lecture course, which comprises of taking part to lectures and completing individual and group assignments. Recordings of the lectures will not be available. Course completing in English.

KAT.VAST.204 Corporate social responsibility reporting, Online course 5 ECTS: in spring 2022, period IV 7.3.–31.5.2023. Independent online course, which comprise of completing online assignments. Course completing in English.

KAT.VAST.206 Business, society and nature, Independent Project 5 ECTS: 8.9.–11.12.2022. This is an independent project. The course can be completed in Moodle independently according to the students' own schedule. Lecture course, which comprises participation in the lectures, and group and individual assignments. Course completing in English or Finnish.

KAT.VAST.206 Business, society and nature, Lectures 5 ECTS: Lectures 9.1.–26.2.2023 at Tampere University campus. This is a lecture-based course. The students are required to attend and participate in the lectures, and submit/complete the class assignments provided by the teacher. Final essay. Course completing in English or Finnish.

KAT.VAST.206 Business, society and nature, Independent Project 5 ECTS: in spring 2023, period IV, 6.3.–31.5.2023. This is an independent project. The course can be completed in Moodle independently according to the students' own schedule. Course completing in English or Finnish.

KAT.VAST.206 Business, society and nature, Independent Project 5 ECTS: in spring and summer 2023, 15.5.–31.7.2023. This is an independent project. The course can be completed in Moodle independently according to the students' own schedule. Course completing in English or Finnish.

KAT.VAST.208 Sustainable business practices, online course 5 ECTS: in autumn-spring 2022-2023, periods II-III 24.10.2022–26.2.2023. This course is only available in English. Independent online course, which comprise of completing online assignments according to the students own schedule.

KAT.VAST.208 Sustainable business practices, Lectures 5 op: in spring 2023, period IV 6.3.–14.5.2023. The course consists of 8 lectures. This course is only available in English. The course comprises of taking part to lectures and completing individual and group assignments. Lectures include case exercises and visiting lecturers.

Esitiedot

We strongly recommend that students start the thematic module in
responsible business and sustainability from the course Business ethics.
The Business ethics course prepares students to take part into the
other courses included in the muodule and introduces basic concepts and
themes needed in further studies. However, if the student has previously
completed courses on the topics of business ethics, CSR and
stakeholders, they are able to participate to the other courses of the
module. Regarding the other courses of the module, they can be completed
in any order, but we recommend that students follow the numerical
order.
