In his dissertation, M.Ed. (Health Education) Netra Raj Paudel investigated the prevalence of stress and burnout among secondary school teachers in Nepal, the factors associated with these conditions, and whether workplace interventions, particularly mindfulness-based cognitive behavioural therapy (MB-CBT), can help reduce them. The findings showed that burnout is common among teachers, especially those with poor or moderate work ability. International evidence also indicates that mindfulness-based and cognitive behavioural interventions can significantly reduce stress and burnout. However, the intervention trial conducted in Nepal found no clear additional benefit of MB-CBT compared with the teachers’ regular activities, although burnout levels declined over time in both groups. The results highlight the urgent need for effective, context-specific support for teachers. Such support could improve teachers’ wellbeing and school functioning and contribute to higher-quality learning environments.
