Sahlgren is a Doctoral Researcher in the Doctoral Programme in Philosophy. In his PhD project, Sahlgren aims to develop a normative account of algorithmic fairness in non-ideal conditions and conditions of structural inequality. Sahlgren has written on topics including algorithmic fairness, artificial intelligence and human autonomy, algorithmic group-formation, as well as accountability and non-discrimination in data-driven education.

Sahlgren specializes in ethics of artificial intelligence (algorithmic fairness, in particular), ethics of discrimination, and critical educational technology research.
