Wassim Ghantous

My academic engagement cuts across the fields of International Relations and political geography, and the sub-fields of critical security studies, settler-colonial studies and surveillance studies. In March 2020 I received my PhD in Peace and Development Research from the School of Global Studies at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. In my PhD dissertation I explored the ways in which Israeli colonial assemblages operate in the everyday to control, subjugate, dispossess and replace Palestinian rural communities in the occupied West Bank. Currently I am a postdoctoral researcher in the project "Present-futures in/of Palestine", funded by the Academy of Finland and placed at the Space and Political Agency Research Group (SPARG) at the University of Tampere. This research project is conducted in collaboration with Mikko Joronen and Tiina Järvi, wherein we research the interrelations between present practices and logics of control, violence, colonization and resistance in Palestine and that of the concept of futurity.
