Work and Health, 5 cr
Upon completion of this course, the students will be:
- familiar with the current trends in working life and the main challenges for sustainable work careers and work ability.
- the student understands the interplay between
work and health and the concepts of occupational and work-related diseases as well as aware of the various occupational health care system.
- able to understand the theories on health, stress, workplace safety and ergonomics, workplace health promotion, physical and psychosocial work environment, and environmental exposures on health and wellbeing.
- able to analyze the concept and the methodologies of occupational and environmental epidemiology and will be able to use epidemiological thinking in research and practice.
- able to appraise and synthesize by critically reviewing, analyzing,
interpreting and drawing conclusion on methods and literature in work,
environment and health.
Work can both promote and undermine health. This course introduces the changing patterns of
working life and various aspects of sustainable work career and work ability in
relation to demographic change. The course will also introduce theories on work
stress, ergonomics, and various work environment in relation to health and
safety, and health promotion program at work to promote health and
productivity. The course will also introduce occupational and work-related
diseases, basic methodologies used in the occupational burden of diseases and
injuries, environmental risk assessment methods, epidemiological concepts in
research in occupational health.

Prerequisites: completed a Bachelor’s degree at a university or university of applied sciences
In order to complete the studies you must have a good command of English.

You must submit the degree certificate in electronic format as attachment to your application (file format PDF, PNG, JPG) .
The course has a limited number of places. The places are filled in order of enrollment (on a first come first served basis). There is a quota of 3 for the Open University students.
Study fee: 15 euros / 1 ECTS
Application in Open University studies is always binding.
Degree students of the University of Tampere can’t enroll through the enrollment system of Open University
After receiving confirmation email you may also have to sign-up for the courses in Sisu-system. Please follow the instructions mentioned in confirmation email.
