Tampere Summer School is not only about studying! All Summer School students are invited to join our Social Programme!
The physical edition of the social programme was not relevant for the online version of 2020. Tampere Summer School offered optional online social activities also in August 2020.

Bosa´s Finnish Beer´s tasting
On Friday 2.8. Bosa (Academic beer society) will arrange an English-spoken tasting at Gastropub Kaleva at 19:00. The theme of the evening is Finnish beers made by small breweries, so this is a great chance to get to know the Finnish brewery culture! During the evening an expert will be telling us about the beers and you can also ask them questions. The cost is 15 euros and includes 4-6 tasting portions of different beers. There is also a big patio at the bar, so you can enjoy the weather outside if it’s warm.

Forest immersion
Join us for a trip to our ancestral home in the woods and learn just how it boosts your well-being. As we step in the woods we get dwell in our senses through guided body consciousness, mindfulness and relaxation techniques.

Have you ever tried Karelian pastries, the Finnish savory delicacy with rice pudding inside a rye dough? Nothing is better than home-made Karelian pastries fresh from the oven! During the Finnish food evening, you learn how to make these pastries yourself. The menu also includes a tasty soup and a dessert.

Finnish baseball game
Explore the excitement of the local baseball game.

Canoeing & campfire
Enjoy great company and amazing landscapes while canoeing on Lake Näsijärvi! Students paddle in a big canoe (6-8 people) and are taken care of by the instructors of Hiking Travel Hit. The journey takes you to Tapatora island, where you will be enjoying coffee and some food around a campfire before paddling back.

Nocturnal happening
The lively carnival-like event presents a wide range of shows, exhibitions and other adventures produced by various organizations, associations and performers. The total of over 170 events are spread across the city, the first ones beginning early in the morning and the festivities continue late into the night. Most of the events have free entry.

Viikinsaari cruise & sauna evening
Interested in trying out the traditional Finnish sauna and taking a dip in a beautiful Finnish lake? This is for you! Students get to spend the evening at Viikinsaari Island in, a verdant summer haven, located only 20 minutes away from Tampere city centre. Bring your own towel and bathing suit! Visit to Moomin museum
The only Moomin museum in the world opened in Tampere Hall in June 2017. Tove Jansson's original Moomin illustrations are a key part of the museum’s atmosphere. They tell where it all began and what Moomins were like when they were brought into this world by Tove Jansson’s pen.

UniDance dance class
This open-level street dance lesson is suitable for anyone who wants to try dancing, do a bit of exercise or just have fun! It's also a great opportunity to introduce yourself to some Finnish music. The lesson consists of a warm-up, dance technique, and a choreography. You will need to bring comfortable clothes suitable for sports, a water bottle and preferably gym shoes (outdoor trainers not allowed!). The lesson is held by UniDance Tampere which is the dance group of Tampere universities' students."
