Tampere Summer School is intended for university and applied university students and graduates from all over the world. We welcome applications from Bachelor, Master and PhD students of all academic fields, but please remember to check course-specific requirements in the course descriptions. All applicants must be proficient in English.
More specific language requirements apply if you are applying as an exchange or a degree student to Tampere University or Tampere University of Applied Sciences.
All applicants must fill in an application form and specify their motivation for each course applied for. More information will be published on this page before the application period.
Student selections will be made after the application period has ended. Also non-selected applicants and students on a reserve list will be notified.
Selected applicants must confirm participation and pay possible fees (instructions will be attached to the letter of acceptance) by the confirmation deadline (to be specified).
Please note that Tampere Summer School reserves the right to cancel a course if the minimum amount of students is not reached. In case of a cancellation, applicants will be notified.
Finland is a Schengen member state (along with Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland). Anyone entering Finland from within the Schengen area needs only a valid passport or some other official document issued for traveling purposes.
Students coming from outside of the Schengen area will need a passport and possibly also a visa. Check the list provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland to see the required travel documents in order to enter Finland.

NOTE! Tampere Summer School team cannot provide you with assistance in obtaining a passport or visa. We recommend that you begin the application process for a visa as early as possible, as it may take weeks. Tampere Summer School cannot guarantee that you will receive a visa and cannot refund the course fee should your visa application be denied. We recommend that you wait until you have been granted a visa before paying for accommodation or social programme.
Scholarships for refugees and asylum seekers
Tampere Summer School offers 10 scholarships for applicants with a refugee or asylum seeker background. Scholarship applicants apply using the same application form as other summer school students and are subject to the same general and course-specific eligibility requirements as other students (see above). In addition, scholarship applicants must provide a document that proves they have one of the following:
- a pending asylum application
- have already been granted an asylum
- a residence permit based on subsidiary protection
- have entered Finland as a quota refugee
