Description

After completing the course the student

- is familiar with concepts and tools for strategic analysis for health policy, including the role of impact assessments, evidence and evaluation of policies and programmes

-is familiar with legal and normative basis for public health at local, national and European Union levels

-understands conflict of interest and how public engagement and lobbying can shape health policy options and choices

- is familiar with the concepts and principles of health impact assessment and health in all policies approach and their implementation in practice

-has basic skills to apply HIA, HIAP or evaluation in practice

-can critically assess and engage with key debates on health policy and intersectoral policymaking.

The course will focus on strategic health policy and how to apply concepts and methods of evaluation, health impact assessment and policy analysis for health at local, national, European, and global levels. The course has a specific focus on how to engage with policymaking for health and engaging with intersectoral work and HIAP. It contributes to skills and capabilities for working life on strategic use of concepts and tools for health policy. The course builds skills especially for Health in All Policies, influencing determinants of health and understanding the role of interest group influence and conflicts of interest in policy-making process. The english course has its focus on European and global policies and policy processes.

How to apply

Prerequisites: completed a Bachelor’s degree at a university or university of applied sciences

In order to complete the studies you must have a good command of English.

Applications to open university studies must be sent through the online application form. Please read through the application instructions in Applying to Open University studies -pages.

You must submit the degree certificate in electronic format as attachment to your application (file format PDF, PNG, JPG) .

The course has a limited number of places. The places are filled in order of enrollment (on a first come first served basis). There is a quota of 3 for the Open University students.

Study fee: 15 euros / 1 ECTS

Application in Open University studies is always binding.

Degree students of the University of Tampere can’t enroll through the enrollment system of Open University

After receiving confirmation email you may also have to sign-up for the courses in Sisu-system. Please follow the instructions mentioned in confirmation email.
