Specialty Training in Medicine and Dentistry

Specialty Training in Medicine and Dentistry in Finland are coordinated by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, and organised by selected universities and hospitals in cooperation. There are altogether 50 different Specialty Training Programs in Medicine and 5 in Dentistry. Prerequisites for training are a license to practise medicine or dentistry in Finland and a good command of the Finnish language. Application periods are organised twice a year.

The Path to Specialty Training in Medicine or Dentistry in Finland

If you are interested in Specialty Training in Medicine or Dentistry in Finland, your first step is to become a licensed doctor or a dentist in Finland. To do this, you must contact the National Supervisory Authority for Welfare and Health (VALVIRA). Please also note that specialty training in Finland requires a good command of the Finnish language: there are no opportunities to train in English.
