The student is also able to explain the operating principles of the key semiconductor devices (e.g. p-n junction, Schottky and tunnel diodes, junction and field effect transistors, photovoltaic devices) and the materials parameters affecting these. The student develops a physical understanding that can be applied to novel devices (e.g. bulk heterojunction devices) , materials (e.g. metal oxides, organics) or processes (e.g. printing).

Prerequisites
A basic understanding of semiconductor physics (energy bands, diffusion and drift current) and of the physical background of junctions and transistors is expected. This can be for example from the "Basic Semiconductor Technology" course offered by physics, by an equivalent course in another university, or by the recently added additional content in the electronics/electrical engineering courses offered at bachelor level at Tamper University
FYS-6106 Basic Semiconductor Technology or equivalent knowledge is required as a prerequisite.
