The aim of the open university route studies is to facilitate the student’s access to a full degree programme at a later time. Students applying for degree programmes from the open university route are required to have a Bachelor’s-level degree in a suitable field of study. Applicants must prove their eligibility and send in their degree certificate with necessary attachments as they apply for route studies. The faculty checks that these preceding studies are acceptable before students are admitted for the route studies.
Applications for MSc studies on the open university route are open for the period of 1 July – 14 July 2021. Only applications received during the application period will be reviewed.
All courses must be completed during a single academic year. Students on the MSc route can apply for the right to study in the degree programme their route studies have followed. A student may be admitted for degree studies after completing the route studies in the required schedule and according to the requirements of the degree programme. Please note that the credits should be visible in the student register on 15 June 2022 in order to be taken into account.

If the applicant has a bachelor’s degree from a foreign university, a personal study route will be devised based on the applicant’s background and interests.

Students on the MSc route can apply for the right to study in the degree programme their route studies have followed. In the academic year 2021–2022, the study attainments of students on the MSc route must be visible in the student register on 15 June 2022 in order to be taken into account. A student may be admitted for degree studies after completing the route studies in the required schedule (within an academic year) and according to the requirements of the degree programmes.
Students on the Open University route may be admitted as degree students, if they do not already have the right to study in a degree programme in engineering sciences in Tampere University. The degree programmes cannot admit students from the Open University route who hold or have completed a Master’s-level degree in a related field and who are applying for a degree programme that contains mostly the same study contents as the applicant’s earlier studies.

Applications for MSc studies on the Open University route were open for the period of 1 July – 14 July 2021. Application period starts on 1.7.2021 at 10.00. Applicants who graduate at latest 31st July will be considered for admission.

All applicants must include the following attachments with their application form:
- Certified copy of the original bachelor's degree certificate and its English translation
- Certified copy of the original transcript of records (includes the scope and grades of courses studied for the degree) and its English translation
- Degree completed in Finland: If you have completed your degree in a university of applied sciences (AMK) or a university in Finland you do not need to certify the copys of educational documents.
- Degree completed outside Finland: The educational documents need to be translated either by the university that issued the original document or an official translator. The copies of the degree certificate, transcript of records and their translations into English must be certified by a notary public (Local Register Office/ Maistraatti), the Finnish Embassy/Consulate in your home country or the institution that issued the original document with an institutional stamp on the documents.
Applicants who hold a previously completed master’s degree (in Finland or abroad) include also a Statement of Purpose with their application form. In order for a student holding a master’s degree to be admitted as a student through an Open University Route, he/she must submit a Statement of Purpose at the application phase and explain how the degree would produce new competence for him/her. The form of the motivation letter is free. It should give information of your background and motivation towards studies and it shoud not be more than one-two pages.
