After the course, student knows how to do simple Ethernet and IP-level configurations, can do basic performance measurements, and is able to utilize a protocol analyzer to explore and debug the operation of protocols used commonly in today's Internet.
Configuration of simple networking features on computers running the Linux operating system
IPv4 subnetworking, static routing, DHCP, DNS and NAT. Use of aforementioned technologies is a laboratory environment
Implementing a ready-made network topology in practice
Studying the network performance with standard tools in various setups. Usage of a protocol analyzer (Wireshark)
Practice and usage of application and transport layer protocols
Differences of TCP and UDP
Configuration of simple networks using Cisco networking devices (switches and routers)
Virtual Local Area Networks (VLAN) and Virtual Private Networks (VPN)
Planning a network topology
Other application layer protocols (HTTP, FTP, SMTP, etc.)
Network simulator GNS3
We will try to arrange some laboratory work as contact teaching. It will be possible to complete the labs remotely as well. Please find the details on the course Moodle page.
This course is complementary to the course Computer Networking I, and should be taken in parallel with it. Equivalent knowledge from previous studies is also acceptable.
