Student can understand and explain the terminology and the definitions used in the field of biomedical materials science.
Student is able to separate differences between material groups and materials, their biocompatibility and typical reactions inside the human body.
Student can name the most common materials in the field of biomedical materials science.
Student can explain the structures, properties and differences of the most common materials as well as explain how and why different materials are used for different clinical applications.
Student can explain main sterilization methods for different materials, and understand the demands and principles for operations in clean rooms.

- Classifications of medical biomaterials, general issues about materials.
- Biocompatibility and interactions between biomaterials and body environment.
- Biomaterial groups: Metals, polymers, bioceramics, composites.
Complementary knowledge
- More comprehensive knowledge about the classifications.
- Interactions of different materials between different tissues.
- Properties of the materials in the material groups. Clinical use of the materials.

- Different biomedical materials and the classification according to specific properties.

This implementation is organized remotely.
The implementation includes online lectures, self-study materials and related course assignments. The assessment is based on the individual and group assignments completed during the implementation, and the final exam.
Partial completions of the course must be carried out during the same implementation.
