You will receive instructions on how to do this by e-mail after you have confirmed your acceptance of the study place by paying the required fee.</p>

<p>Part A of Period 1 and Part B of Period 2 form the course of 5 cr.<br></p><p>In Period 2 the student should be able to modify the results of DT &nbsp;systems studied in Period 1 to CT systems alone or as a member of a &nbsp;team. After the course the student should be able to: use of Matlab to &nbsp;design, analyze and implement CT and DT (Continuous-Time and &nbsp;Discrete-Time) deterministic LQ (Linear Quadratic) Controllers, Kalman &nbsp;Filters and LQG (LQ Gaussian) controllers for LTI (Linear &nbsp;Time-Invariant) CT and DT state space systems as well as PID controllers &nbsp;for CT and DT LTI plants, even for delayed ones. This includes e.g. the &nbsp;ability to compute suitable performance indices both in time domain and &nbsp;frequency domain, model integrations and simulation skills, stability &nbsp;analysis techniques using Simulink, Control System Toolbox and Symbolic &nbsp;Toolbox, developing reliable algorithms for on-line use and programming &nbsp;of simple Matlab tools and communication of the results to other members &nbsp;of the engineering &amp;amp; business community.</p>

<h2>Prerequisites</h2>Basic knowledge on analog control of nonlinear and linear Single Input Single Output systems including use of differential and integral calculus, differential equations, delay models, complex numbers, matrices, transfer functions, frequency response, PID control etc. TAU teaches such things in Math courses and control courses like ASE-1131, ASE-1259 (earlier in finnish in ASE-1252). <br><p>&#160;Basic knowledge in Digital Control (like that given in ASE-2110 or ASE-2117) is useful yet not necessary. <p>Short course of 5 cr includes 24 &nbsp;voluntary Lecture &amp;amp; Matlab Exercise sessions each of 2h and a few mandatory sessions: three PC Works, three Seminars and three Open Book Tests (Sub-Exams) in EXAM classes with access to Matlab and its Simulink, Control System Toolbox and Symbolic Math Toolbox. Three voluntary extra PC <br>works are available for additional points. <br></p><p>The additional 1-2 extra credits are available for exchange students only through additional work yet without additional exams. </p>
