During the course we will go through the history of trans studies, the main concepts and terminology used, and its relationship to feminist research as well as trans and feminist activism. In addition, we will address current discussions concerning transgender identities, expressions and experiences, such as issues related to the legal and medical reassignment process, cultural representations and human rights.
The course will consist of short introductory lectures by the teacher, and small group discussions and assignments based on the course material as well as topics suggested by the students.
The course material includes both written and visual material in the form of vlogs, short documentaries as well as academic articles and non-academic texts such as blog posts and news texts.
