For example, studying intermediate studies may require some completed basic studies. These are described on the Information about studies tab of the study unit under prior requirements.When you have been admitted to the studies, you must enrol separately via the Sisu information system for the implementation of the unit of study and, for example if set, for a practise group of your choice. You will receive instructions on how to do this by e-mail after you have confirmed your acceptance of the study place by paying the required fee.

Random and explanatory variables, measures of central tendency and dispersion, frequency tables and empirical distributions, sample correlation coefficient, introduction to propability distributions and normal distribution, basics of statistical inference, introduction to linear regression and analysis of variance, use of statistical software.

The student can independently perform a small-scale empirical study with a software appropriate for the situation using methods of descriptive statistics and statistical inference described on the course. The student understands the requirements for use of the methods and their theoretical background. The student can acquire research data suitable for the course, can describe the variables of the data using distributions and statistics, can narrow down and select the research problems to be studied and choose methods appropriate for the research problems. The student can perform the necessary analyses and interpret the acquired results. The student can report the research results.
