The course includes learning by doing assignments with real devices in labs. It focuses on PLC and robot programming within various environment. The student can select from assignment modules, which he/she focuses on.
Course content:
- Basics of state models. Students utilise state models and timing charts for representing practical cases and they understand applicability of state models.
- Logic programming (instruction list, ladder diagram, function block diagram, structured text, sequential function chart). Students can use basic functions to control digital inputs and outputs. Student knows timers, counters, word logic, comparison functions, etc.
- Basic robot programming skills. Robot coordinates, movements, control of inputs and outputs.
- Basics of graphical off-line robot programing.
- Visual interface design.
After completing the course, the student can program and use the basic equipment of the discrete production automation in practice (sensors, actuators, logics (PLC), robotics). In the end of the course, students have a good understanding of the field of discrete manufacturing automation and they can use also the virtual design tools in practice.
The lectures are online. The course has several independent laboratory exercises that require attendance in the campus of University of Tampere. These visits can be arranged with the teacher flexibly and safe. Labs can be done at own time and during weekends.
