Core content
- Particle counting and collecting instruments: The student understands the principles of operation and the detection efficiency of particle number counting instruments. The student are familiar with impactor-type and filter instruments.
- Particle charging and electrical mobility: The student knows different methods of particle and cluster charging, and is able to calculate the charging state of the aerosol. The student understands electrical mobility and is able to compute the number size distribution from mobility data
- Measurement of distribution moments: mass, surface, number: The student understands the distribution moments and the methods to measure them. The student is able to perform conversion calculations and apply moments in instrument inversion.
- Aerosol spectrometry:The student understands the main components and physical principles in aerosol spectrometry
- Aerosol measurement systems:The student understands the basic principles governing the measurement of aerosols, such as flow conditions, pressure difference driving flow, particle losses, etc. The student knows how to measure the essential parameters of the system.
Complementary knowledge
- The student can perform statistical analysis of a particle counting instrument¿s signal
- The student is able to design the flow system aprropriately for a electrical mobility measurement.
- The student is able to quantify the influence of aerosol dynamics during on the observations.
