However, less attention has been paid to the teaching of these new processes in educational institutions. Tampere University is proposing one of the first course in this field in Finland. This course aims to provide an AM training course using state-of-the-art pedagogical methods. Conventional educational methods involved less student participation in the process of learning, one goal of this course is to encourage active student participation during the course. This is done via the use of a project based approach. This course proposes a comprehensive content for AM developing students skills and capabilities to apply and develop the knowledge gathered during the course. The course provide the basis for understanding the key concepts behind this novel manufacturing approach. At the end of the course the students will know design principles to design parts for AM (DfAM). They will also be able to select appropriate AM technologies as well as appropriate post-processing technologies. Students will also be informed and trained with topology optimization tools for taking optimal benefit of shape freedom provided by AM technologies. Finally limitations and constraints associated with AM will also be studied.
The student will be able to design parts for AM and also to select best hybrid manufacturing process including AM, conventional manufacturing processes and measurement methods.

Some of the studies require prior studies. For example, studying intermediate studies may require some completed basic studies. These are described on the Information about studies tab of the study unit under prior requirements.
When you have been admitted to the studies, you must enrol separately via the Sisu information system for the implementation of the unit of study and, for example if set, for a practise group of your choice. You will receive instructions on how to do this by e-mail after you have confirmed your acceptance of the study place by paying the required fee.
