<p>From this page you will find information about how to manage your PSP, Timeline and Study calendar. All university students plan their studies and enroll for course teaching in Sisu. The <strong>Structure of studies</strong> page allow you to create a PSP, the <strong>Timeline</strong> page allows you to plan the studies in your PSP and the <strong>Study Calendar </strong>page allows you to enroll to your studies and exams.</p>

<h3>Create a study plan</h3>

<p>Preparing a study plan in Sisu begins in the student's view (log in to Sisu: <a href="https://sis-tuni.funidata.fi/student/login">tuni.fi/sisu)</a> by clicking the title "Structure of studies" in the upper bar. This will open a pop-up window named "Create a new study plan". You can find your degree programme in the My educations-sections. You can find the education corresponding to your study right there. You can also create a plan in the All educations-section. You can do that by writing the name of your degree programme to the search field "Select education". Once you have found your programme, you may also choose the possible specific learning path, if the degree programme offers options. You also need to choose the curriculum period which forms a basis for your plan. </p>

<p>Name your study plan, so that you can recognize it from possible other study plans that you may make later on. Finally, click the button "Create a plan" in the lower right corner of the pop-up window.</p>

<p>If you have already created a study plan, clicking on the “Structure of studies” section in Sisu will take you directly to the study plan screen. If you want to create a new study plan, click on the “new study plan” button at the top right of the page.</p>

<p>There is also a three-dot button in the top right-hand corner of the study plan view, which opens a menu with functions that allow you to manage your selected study plan, make it your primary one and, among other things, request the recognition of prior studies or a custom course credit. You can change an open study plan via the plan name in the drop-down menu.</p>

<h3>Structure of your degree programme</h3>

<p>In the following phase the system opens a view to the structure of your degree programme. Your plan will be based on the structure of the chosen degree, and the structure will let you know what studies are required. When you make the plan, the structure will also let you know if, for example, you have chosen studies in a module or under a certain section according to the rules, or if you need to modify your choices. </p>

<p>There are three dots in the upper right corner of the study plan structure view. By clicking them, you can open a menu from which you can either delete, print or copy the plan, as well as change its name. </p>

<p>By clicking the titles visible in the structure of the degree, you can open a side window to the right side of the view. This window will let you know what studies you need to choose for that specific module or section in the degree. By following the rules and guidelines set in this window, you can add studies to the plan. In the basic view you can only make choices in sections where it is allowed. You can change your selections by clicking the sliding switch next to the course/module. </p>

<p>The structure of a degree may also have open search fields (for example, under the section "optional studies"). With these you can freely search and add studies to the plan. You can remove these studies from the plan by clicking a bin located next to the course/module in the side window.  </p>

<p>You can see more detailed information of each course and study module by clicking on the code that appears next to its name. </p>

<h3>Free edit mode</h3>

<p>Students can make larger changes to the study plan in a free edit mode or by adding a study draft to the degree. You can enter the free edit mode by choosing a section in the degree and clicking the three dots in the the upper right corner of the side window. A draft of studies enables, for example, adding exchange studies to the plan. However, using the free edit mode will lead to a nonconforming degree structure. </p>

<h3>System announcements</h3>

<p>When you are drafting a study plan, Sisu may give you various announcements. These have been described in the following table: </p>

			<td>"Selections missing"</td>
			<td>There are courses or study modules missing from the plan. </td>
		</tr>
		<tr>
			<td>"Optional selections"</td>
			<td>The section allows you to choose courses or study modules according to rules set for the degree. </td>
		</tr>
		<tr>
			<td>"Selections that deviate from the curriculum"</td>
			<td>The same course has been chosen into two sections in the degree structure. </td>
		</tr>
		<tr>
			<td>
			<p>"The structure of the study plan is against the rules. Please correct your selections."</p>

			<p>"Selections against the rules."</p>
			</td>
			<td>The plan includes selections that are against the rules or the basic structure of the degree. This announcement appears when something that does not belong to the structure is added to the degree or when the maximum limit of credits for a section is surpassed. It can also appear after the free edit mode has been used.</td>
		</tr>
		<tr>
			<td>"Approval required"</td>
			<td>The module content must be verified before graduation is possible. Apply for verification through the right side window after making the selections.</td>
		</tr>

<h3>How do I know when my study plan is completed?</h3>

<p>A study plan is complete when all the sections of the structure are marked "selections done" or "selections approved". Then the plan follows the rules and requirements that have been set for the degree in question. However, note that Sisu is not always able to interpret the specifications and details that have been set, for example, in the more detailed guiding information of each section. Studies can be planned in parts, and the plan does not have to be finished all at once. The system saves the plan automatically.</p>


Stucture of studies

<h3>Timing the Planned Studies</h3>

<p>Once a study plan has been started or completed, you may time the studies one course at a time by moving on to "Timeline", which is the second header in the upper bar. If you have made several different study plans, make sure that you are timing the plan that you wish to focus on.  </p>

<p>The timing view is divided into fall and spring semesters according to how much study time you have to complete the degree, maximum additional time included. Each semester has been divided into study periods. You can also add summer periods into the view, if you wish. </p>

<p>Courses that are ready to be timed are hidden in the lower part of the view. You can access them by clicking the blue bar. Choose a course by clicking it and the view changes into the timeline. You can place the course on the timeline by clicking on the period that you wish to place it to. </p>

<p>A course that has already been placed can be adjusted and moved on the timeline by clicking the three dots behind the name of the course. By doing so you will access a menu with "delete", "modify timing" and "change the timing". By modifying the timing you can stretch the course to last for more than one period. The option "change the timing" allows you to move the course into another period. Deleting the course returns it back among all the other courses that are waiting to be placed on the timeline. </p>

<p>If a model timeline has been prepared for the degree programme, you may use it to assist timing the studies. The model timeline function can be found from the left side of the timing view. When you click the vertical bar on the left, it opens another side window.  By choosing in the window "apply", some of the courses will automatically be placed on the timeline according to the order in which the programme administrators have planned that they should be completed. However, even when using the model timeline function you still need to place all freely chosen and other courses not included in the model yourself. </p>

<p>If you place courses on the timeline without using a model timeline, note that the system does not warn you even if the course in question is not organised during the study period you have chosen. Thus, always check the teaching schedules separately.</p>


Timeline

<h3>Choosing Groups and Creating a Study Calendar</h3>

<p>In the Study Calendar the menu on the right side of the view has been divided into three sections. The tab "Teaching not selected" allows you to choose which study plan you are viewing and want to schedule. In the "enrolment" tab you can view detailed teaching information and choose, for example, necessary practice groups. When a course is no longer relevant in the calendar view, it moves on to the “Finished and discontinued” tab.</p>

<p>In the "Teaching not selected" tab in the Study Calendar you can see a list of courses for which you have not yet chosen specific teaching. If a course has teaching available, you can add it to the calendar by clicking "add". This will open the "Completion methods" of the course description. Here you can choose a method of completion (click on the method in question and then “select this completion method”. After this, the teaching can be added to the calendar with the "add" button. Removal is done with the same button. This can also be done through the study plan. By clicking the code of a course in the study plan, the same course leaflet opens and from the leaflet’s “Completion methods” tab you can select teaching. When teaching has been selected, a link appears on the top of the page through which you can finalize the enrolment.</p>

<p>When teaching has been selected, the course moves onto the enrolment tab, where you can make more specific choices concerning teaching groups and the calendar. You can choose which teaching groups and times are shown in the calendar. However, if attendance to teaching is compulsory, it is directly shown in the calendar. The enrolment functions of Sisu was taken into use on 5 August 2020.</p>

<p>Information in the study calendar can be transferred from Sisu to another calendar by clicking "export into external calendar" and entering the given address, for example, to Office 365. The study calendar does not update in real time when viewed in other applications. The update interval varies from service to another according to the schedule defined by the application or service. For instance the Office365-service of the University uses an update interval of three hours.</p>


Study Calendar

<p><strong>Update your PSP independently and follow the guidelines below. If you have taken a longer break from studies, we recommend you book a study guidance appointment to update your PSP. </strong>In that case, contact <strong> </strong><a href="https://www.tuni.fi/en/students-guide/handbook/uni/planning-studies-and-study-guidance/guidance-and-counselling-services-contact-details/guidance-and-counselling-services-faculties-contact-information">your faculty’s academic guidance and counselling services</a>.</p>

<p>Do the following when you independently update your PSP:</p>

<ol>
	<li>Begin by finding out if you can update your existing PSP or whether it would make sense to create a new one.
	<ol>
		<li><strong>You may update your existing PSP if your study plan in Sisu has been drafted according to the curriculum for the academic year of 2020–2021 or a later year.</strong> You will find the curriculum year in the first line after the title of your PSP, before information on editing, for example, “Studies in civil engineering (civil engineering, <strong>2020-2021</strong>, edited on 11 Jan. 2021, created on 11 Jan. 2021.</li>
		<li><strong>It is worth your while, or you must create a new study plan</strong> if there is no PSP in your Sisu that accords with the curriculum for the academic year 2020–2021 or a later year.</li>
	</ol>
	</li>
</ol>

	<li>If you can update an existing PSP, do the following:
	<ol>
		<li>Check whether the curriculum period of your degree programme has changed between creating your study plan and this academic year. The University’s curriculum periods have been 2020–2021 and 2021–2024, after which the periods have mainly been in place for three years.</li>
		<li>If the curriculum period has not changed, do the following:
		<ol>
			<li>Check that your existing PSP accords with your goals and update it if necessary.</li>
			<li>Before registering for course units, choose their completion methods. If you cannot find any teaching in a completion method:
			<ol>
				<li>Check whether there is a more updated version of the course unit</li>
				<li>The course unit is not implemented. Check the additional info of the course unit and the table of <a href="https://www.tuni.fi/en/students-guide/handbook/uni/services-and-regulations-students/sisu-students/correspondence-old-studies">correspondences</a>. If you cannot find the information and the course unit is obligatory, contact the counselling services of your degree programme.
				<ol>
