Wound evaluation by thermal imaging

Tampere University of Applied Sciences
Duration of project1.9.2018–30.6.2019

The objective of the project is to clarify feasibility of using a mobile phone with thermal imaging in prediction of wound emergence and evaluation of lower limb wound status. The specific target area is home nursing where wound status assessment is based on the nurse's subjective evaluation.

Goal

The objective of the project is to clarify feasibility of using a mobile phone with thermal imaging in prediction of wound emergence and evaluation of lower limb wound status. The specific target area is home nursing where wound status assessment is based on the nurse's subjective evaluation. A ruler might be used as a quantitative method for determining the wound size. A mobile phone combining normal and thermal images provides a possibility for prediction of wound emergence and quantitative and objective assessment of wound status. So far, mobile phone applications with thermal imaging are not in use in health care.
