Developing sustainable biotechnologies for urban circular economy

Tampere University
Duration of project25.11.2019–30.9.2023
Area of focusTechnology

The research activities focus mainly on the sustainable bioprocess development to protect the quality of life and reserve natural resources. For example, biodegradation of different waste streams for production of biogas is investigated and biomethanization using gaseous substrates H2 and CO2 is done using advanced bioprocess development tools. Alternatively, bioprocess solutions are developed and optimized to recover resources and nutrients for circular economy and the reduction of carbon footprint and closing energy balances is investigated.
