De-colonial and de-cold war dialogues on childhood and schooling

Project team

Through autobiographic, autoethnographic and collective biography studies of the authors’ own childhoods and schooling in post/socialist spaces, the project aims to write alternative histories to inform current research and thinking about the socialist past(s) and post-socialist present(s) in different geographic locations.

Background

This project aims to write alternative histories of childhoods and from the analyses of those produce insights about socialist and post-socialist societies in different geographic locations and time periods. Through autobiographic, autoethnographic and collective biography methodologies, collaborators explore their own memories of childhoods and schooling in post/socialist spaces as they relate or connect to childhoods at other places and times. This project has received new funding from KONE Foundation (2019-2021) under the title: Re-Connect / Re-Collect: Cold War Experiences of Childhood and includes collaborations with Dollar Daddy Theatre Company, Hungary, and the Lenin Museum in Tampere, Finland.
