The Academy of Finland has selected the Centres of Excellence (CoE) in research for the period from 2022 to 2029. Tampere University leads the CoE in Tax Systems Research. In addition, research groups from Tampere University will participate as partners in two consortia led by Aalto University and one led by the University of Helsinki. The Academy selected 11 units for the CoE Programme, involving research groups from a total of 11 universities and research institutes.

The CoE in Tax Systems Research, led by Professor Kaisa Kotakorpi, was selected for the 2022–2029 programme, in which its partners are Professor Jaakko Harju’s research group at Tampere University, VATT Institute for Economic Research and the University of Helsinki.

In addition, Tampere University’s research groups will participate as partners in the following consortia (coordinating university in brackets):

  • Professor Arri Priimägi: Life-inspired Hybrid Materials (Aalto University)
  • Associate Professor (tenure track) Paavo Rasilo: High-Speed Electromechanical Energy Conversion Systems (Aalto University)
  • Assistant Professor (tenure track) Matti Rissanen: Virtual laboratory for molecular level atmospheric transformations (University of Helsinki)

“We are delighted to see the launch of the new CoE in the field of tax research. The partnerships in the three CoEs in science and technology also demonstrate the high quality of our research, scientific leadership and innovation,” says Mari Walls, President of Tampere University.

“Tampere University is committed to supporting its CoEs. Warm congratulations and good luck with your research!” Walls adds.

The call for Finnish CoEs attracted a total of 184 letters of intent. Of these, 34 applications were invited to the second call stage.

A CoE is a research community that is already at or striving for the international cutting edge of research in its field.
