Tampere University’s international master’s programmes continue to attract applications

Over 3 000 applications were submitted to Tampere University’s international master’s degree programmes.

Tampere University offered 34 English-taught master’s programmes for intake 2020. The application period ended 15 January 2020. Students admitted to these programmes will graduate as master’s of arts or social sciences, and master’s of science, technology or architecture.

The total number of applications was 3,014. One of the more popular programmes was Computing Sciences and its seven tracks with 749 applications. The most popular programmes were  Computing Sciences, Data Science (197 applications), Leadership for Change – Sustainable Business Management (194 applications) and Peace, Mediation and Conflict Research (191 applications). Applicants could to apply to maximum of three programmes.

University’s new programmes started strongly: Environmental Engineering was one of the more popular programmes with 119 applications and Information Technology, Information Security (80 applications).

The number of applicants was 1,825 and they represent more than 100 nationalities. The number Finnish applicants was 240. The percentage of non-EU and non-EEA applicants was almost 80% (1432 applicants).

“We are very happy to see growth particularly from areas such as Vietnam, Russia and Germany”, says Marja Sutela, Vice President for education at Tampere University.

In the previous application round Tampere University received a total of 3,178 applications for the English-taught master’s degree programmes. As the programme offering varies year to year the numbers are not comparable.

Application period for English-taught Bachelor’s programmes ends on 22 January.
